Medicare’s Competitive Bidding Program

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has implemented a competitive bidding program that limits the choice of homecare providers for certain Medicare-covered durable medical equipment products and services. This program requires durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) providers to bid on the right to service patients within certain competitive bidding areas across the U.S. Only qualified DMEPOS providers that meet certain CMS criteria may become Medicare contracted providers.
